Wellingtonia looks sick!

Wellingtonia looks sick!

We have a large, very well established Wellingtonia in our front garden. We are not sure of its age, but it has been there since at least 1920. It looks to be 'dying' on one half of it. I have contacted the local TPO department, but they were unable to offer a diagnosis.
There are a lot of dead branches on the affected side and the foliage is quite brown.
Is there anything we can do to check what the problem might be?
