Laburnum - Flys - Help !

We have a mature laburnum - maybe 30 years old or more.

This year - right now - for the first time it is attracting hundreds of flys. i have read somewhere about laburnums secreting a sticky fluid, and we are certainly getting a deposit in the ground and adjacent roofs that the flys can't leave alone.

I have been out and pruned off a lot of the lower foliage to try to alleviate the problem.

Any advice very welcome.
