An expert has identified Kretzschmaria deusta in several lime trees outside of my house and has said that all the trees must come down. Many people in the village are very passionate about these trees and are keen to do what they can to prevent this from happening. We have been told that the trees are dying and so will need to come down eventually but as they make up a beautiful avenue along the riverside and are approximately 150 years old we would like to keep them for as long as possible. I would be very grateful for any advice on managing the trees, or treating the soil so when they do inevitably come down we could replace them with limes trees.
