Am I hurting my Cedar Trees?

Am I hurting my Cedar Trees?

Hello,
My name is Carlene. I live in Seattle, Washington.
I would like to ask if it is ok for me to keep a few potted plants at the base of my cedar trees. The trees are easily around 60+ years old. Very large and established. I have 3 pots at the base of each, 2 small & 1 medium. Will this hurt my trees?

I would also like to ask if allowing a small patch of ivy (about 6 feet tall by 2 feet wide) to grow on a side of the trunk will hurt my tree.
Thank you for your time, Carlene Cullison
