We recently moved Ito a house with three palm trees in the backyard. Two of the palms have smooth trunks with no frond bases covering them. A third one still has plenty of the spiny remains, but squirrels continually remove them. They don't seem to,be eating at the tree trunks, but do the trunks need the extra protection? Is it even extra or an essential component of,a healthy palm tree? Are the squirrels mortally damaging the palms? Thank you.
