It sounds like they have contracted a disease or and infestation of some kind I'm dry to say that if half of the tree is infected then there is very little chance in curing this decay.As for the adjacent trees you could try some fertilizer or steroids to give the trees a hand in the growing process perhaps cutting off any dead limbs and sealing it with an arborist spray sealer.if there's no sign or infestation above ground the infestation could be below ground in the root system were the roots are being attack by a colony of so kind.hope this was helpful and I wish your evergreens luck in their battle reviving there self's.
