Treating large tear wound.

Last night's high wind has torn a large branch from my Sycamore. The wound is jagged and deep into the heartwood.Should the wound be treated in any way?
The tree originally had 2 branches acting as counterweights, now all the weight is on one side - is this a problem, if it topples it will rip up my neighbours fence and probably his shed and shed base? Pics available but I can't see how to attach them.
