Sick ponderosa pine

I have a ponderosa pine that has been sick and looks to be dying for the past two years. I believe that it is getting to much potassium as I have my water softener discharging about 10 from the base of the tree and about 16 lower in elevation. I use potassium pellets in the water softener, not salt. I am moving the discharge another 20 from the tree but is there anything I can do to mitigate the damage already done and help the tree? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
