I'm afraid that a complete absence of leaves and brittle branches sounds rather as if the tree has died. Are there any other clues you can give? Have there been any changes to the surroundings for example? Did you treat the lawn or fish pond with any chemicals recently? Any unusual markings on the leaves or twigs? Did you notice any fungi around the tree in the autumn?
