I have a problem with tree bores in Shumard Red Oaks. I have already lost two trees and noticed another showing evidence of problems. The first lost tree had been planted for 10 years and was about 6" diameter. Just lost one that was planted 5 1/2 years ago and was about 3" diameter. The one showing problems is 8" diameter and planted 11 years ago. There was little evidence that bores were present, except for a few on trunk. The leaves wilted and turned brown within 3 days. I live in Rockwall, TX. which is suburb of Dallas. I spoke to a nusery for the first lost tree and they recommended pouring Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insect Control around the base. Do you have any other recommendations, since I do have other red oaks and would like to save the 11 year old tree? Please advise and contact me if you have any questions or need additional information.
