I doubt 'big branches' will root. Photinia Red Robin is propagated from semi hardwood cuttings - that is this seasons growth. If you've cut 'big branches' I'm guessing you have old growth.

Now is the about the right time to take semi hardwood cuttings. There are some tips here:
