yes it is possible, you need to take care though as they dont like being moved, you need to take a large rootball to keep as many roots intact as possible... We have over 200 birches in our field age range between 1 and 8 years that were rescued from a wood that was being felled. They looked a bit rough for a couple of years but are cracking now, we did have some die but 98% lived..
