Pruning a eucalyptus

We have a eucalyptus in our very small garden. I have been told that keeping it trimmed will keep the leaves more rounded, as well as keeping it down to a more appropriate size. I have seen such a specimen in another garden (over fences), and theirs is of a rounded shape, with small round leaves, and looks like a silvery green tree made of bubbles as a result. How do I get it to look like that?
