Acer Tree changing colour

We have an acer tree whose leaves are changing colour gradually. The tree is circa 25 years old and many of the branches now have leaves which are different colours from the original. We have thought of marking these branches and pruning them in the winter, but what do you think. I could send a couple of photographs if that would help.
