Hi Chris,

Sounds like some of the RoundUp got to a root of the tree. All you can do for the tree now is supportive care. Make sure the tree has the proper water and topdress the root zone with 1/2" of compost. Mulch properly. You can prune dead wood at any time. If it's too high up have a certified arborist prune it for you. Don't have someone with a pickup, chainsaw and ladder do this. Pruning a large old tree is part science and part art. DO NOT TOP THE TREE! Here's some helpful info.
