Oak tree droppings

Our oak tree is dropping millions of what look like tiny seeds onto our driveway. This is the first time I've ever seen it do that. But they are everywhere and dangerous to walk on as they create a layer that is very slick. I thought acorns were the seeds of oak trees but that's what these things look like to me. Also the falling leaves have tiny seed like bumps all over the back of the. Can anyone shed some light on this phenomenon. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
