Good morning:

I have a large mature cottonwood tree which someone had left a small car jack in at the base of the tree. The tree had all but grown around it. I was concerned about the tree weakening at that point and splitting under some of the high winds we get here in Nevada. Using chisels hammer and lots of leverage I was able to cut and pry the hammer out. But I don't know what to do about the hole now. I is about 6 by 8 by 7 inches and part of hole looks like it has some rot going on. Is there something I can use to heal and protect the tree with? I have heard people have used cement (concrete) to fill this kind of hole.

Thank you for your assistance.
