A fig tree given to my family as a housewarming present 12 years ago seems to be dying. It is 8 feet tall an in a pot about 3 ft across and two feet tall. The trunk has white stain marks at the base and the tree has lost most (90 %) of it's normal amount of leaves. It has not been moved to a new location. I transplanted it about three years ago. I planted a cactus kind of plant in the same pot around the base about 1 1/2 years ago and both seemed to do well until 6 weeks ago. I had our Rotary exchange student help me water and fertalize it around that time and it may have been over fertalized. I took out the cactus plant last week and have given it a good watering with no fertalizer. Any ideas on how to save this tree? It is was a gift from a friend that has since passed over.
