We have a large Silver Birch tree in our garden that was planted in 1927. We had it topped and pruned 18 months ago as there was a lot of dead wood in it. It hasnt sent any new shoots out since but has leafed up okay. Some of the roots go into next doors garden and when they were digging the other day , they found some of the trees roots that were all mushy (almost like they had been soaked in water for a long time). Can anybody tell me what is wrong with the roots and will it effect the tree eventually.
