Pruning an Avocado Tree

I have an avocado tree that is 20-25ft high. I would like to prune the tree to get it down to a manageable height. The tree has two main branches which veer to the right and left. How do I cut the branches to control the height? Where do I cut them? In the joint, straight across? The tree has provided much much fruit over the past two years that I have been in the house. Thanks
