Wood does not repair itself. If the branch can be held together in such a way as the tree is able to lay down new wood over the damage you may achieve something approaching a 'repair', but the crack will always be there in the middle.
If it won't completely unbalance the tree it may be better to carefully prune out the damaged branch.
