We've just launched a new website at where consumers can search for local tree surgeons by simply entering their post code.

The directory lists only Arboricultural Association Approved Contractors and International Society of Arboricultre Certified Arborists. It is planned to add Trust Mark registered tree care companies to the directory soon.

Commenting on the launch of, the Health and Safety executives Frances Hirst said:

"Working with trees can be dangerous. It kills and seriously injures many people each year as well as causing damage to property, often at considerable cost to house-owners and others. This is often due to inadequately trained and under-insured tree surgeons, offering to undertake work at 'cut-down' prices .  HSE therefore welcomes the aims of the 'FindTreeSurgeons' web site, which is intended to raise public awareness of the need to use competent, trained and qualified arborists, who will use safe methods to carry out their work, without endangering themselves or others."
