Concern over trunk split on tree.

Posted by John Valentine , Apr 18,2005,15:42       Forum

We took a chance on a crabapple tree with a small split in the trunk at an auction over the weekend. The split appears to be in the bark only. The split starts at the base of the trunk where it goes into the ground and goes up the trunk about 6-8 inches. The tree is young and has about a 2-3 inch trunk. The canapy of the tree appears healthy and is about to bloom.

Is there something we can do for the split.

Any information you can provide would be helpful.
