Leland Cypress Trees

Posted by Jenny , Jun 22,2005,21:25       Forum

I had 4 Lelands in the yard of my new home (10 years old or so as I understand it). I live in a northern suburb of Atlanta, GA. We lost two of them last year in two hurricanes that came through. The sides where the remaining two that were up against the two that fell have brown/dead branches and foliage. The discolored areas are only in the areas where they were blocked by the other trees extending up about 6 feet - the rest of the trees looks perfectly normal. I assumed that once the areas were exposed to light, space and air that they would experience fresh growth but that has not happened in the intervening 8-9 months. What if anything can I do to encourage new growth in this area. Should I prune all the dead matter out, fertilize or what? Please Help.
