Beech Tree Dropping Branches

Help,
I have a very mature beech tree which has dropped an enormous branch,
part of the branch appears has wood which just snaps/crumbles. The tree has regularly over the last few years been dropping twigs without leaves, but this branch is full of leaves. Is the tree dying ?
