Hi Ralph,

I don't think you are going to find info on maple rust. Maybe they meant anthracnose. It sounds to me like the tree has either been overwatered or planted too deeply. Can you see the rootflare? Here's some sites for review of planting, watering, mulching, etc. If you still think it's not a watering problem let me know and we can review leaf diseases, but I don't think that's the problem. Btw, was this a container or b&b tree?
