Earl, you are very welcome. The close proximity in which we live amazes me. I'm probably no more then 2 miles from you! I'm at Route 108 and Route 29 just off Thunder Hill Road! If that tree doesn't improve I'm going to have to come over there and have a chat with it! ;)
I agree that it is most likely the watering if you started to water before the leaves started to drop. Some leaf drop is common in hot weather. We have had some really hot days that just seemed to go on forever, so that too may be to blame. Keep in mind that leaves are expendable to a tree and it will shed them if needed to care for the internal structure.
