Hi Karen,
This site you have written to is located in the UK and I'm not all that familiar with that species of willow as I live in the Mid-Atlantic states of the US. I did find this info.

Since the tree is native to the northern US and Canada, these folks might know more about it's root system. Do register so you will get a notice of a response. You'll also have a better chance of a response if you are registered. Post your question in the Woody Plants forum and do mention the name of the willow in your title.
