Pine Log

Posted by S Doyle , Feb 09,2007,16:51       Forum

I have been insepcting what I believe is a Spruce log as the forest is primarlity spruce. Anyhow it has about an 8" diameter and is about 14' long. At the crown of the log is a five pointed, well, scarring that is around the tree's heart in a regular pattern.. It is five oval sections that look like knots, are all the same size, and radiate from the center to look like an intentional five point star. I am in Northern New Mexico. Is this some sort of blight or disease in the tree or is it simply a neat anomaly? Have you ever heard of such a thing. I wish I could post the image, but it is being used as evidence in a historical investigation so that is not possible. I hope you can help me based upon my descriptrion alone.
