Traditionally were possible you should remove the infected branch that the fungus is on. (Especially if you can see obvious signs of rot). However if this location is on a large limb or the main trunk then there is little you can do. Many trees coexist with fungus but if the brackets are large and numerous it means it is feeding quite readily on the inside of the tree. This will eventually decay the tree until it becomes unsafe, e.g. shedding a branch(es) or falling over. The time period for this to occur may be up to 20yrs, but as long as you keep your eye on the tree you will notice if the end is near!.
