Acer Trees
| Posted by Liz Peters , Feb 26,2007,11:37 | Forum | ||||
Hello - I hope you are able to help me with my poor Acer tree!
I'm sorry but I don't know that type it is. It has beautiful purple leaves, but not the filigree ones. It is nearly 5 feet tall, but still quite young I suppose.
It is positioned in an East Lancashire garden, next to a wall, receiving sun on the top branches most of the day, and filtered sun at the end of the day on the base.
I put the acer in that position 2 years ago, the first summer it looked quite good, but last summer it was stunning! Then towards the end of the summer - a very hot one!! - the topmost leaves began to dry and curl up.
I had been watering that area occasionally, as a bamboo nearby would wilt when it was boiling.
Now I have noticed that some of the branches have buds that are about to open, but some are obviously dead, and the branches too. There are 3 main branches and the middle one is obviously dead.
Would I be able to cut the dead branches out - would this encourage growth elsewhere, or do you think the whole tree may die now?
Any advice you could give me would be of enormous help.
With many thanks
Liz Peters
