Im affraid there is nothing you can do. It is the time of year when sap is rising fast and even small pruning cuts may bleed. The fact is the tree was pruned at the wrong time and should have been pruned late autumn or very early spring. Hopefully the tree is healthy and it should fight off most infections and heal itself. Be aware of birch polypore fungus that may grow on and attack the upper half of the tree come autumn 2007.
