Marie, I was told that you could and should prune any limb that is growing straight up. The leaves on these branches will be larger than the weeping ones. Cut this branch as close to the base as you can. If you are in doubt, let it go for a while and if it does not start to weep then you should cut it.
I have a question about trimming the weeping limbs. Can it be done without hurting the tree? I would like to trim mine about two feet off the ground but am fearful that it will hurt the tree.
