My understanding is that Rhododendron can be controlled by winching or
digging out the stumps. This sounds like hard work to me but has the
advantage that the ground is clear for other uses and regrowth is reduced

One good thing about rhodo is that the seed do not remain viable in the soil
for long periods of time and so regeneration from seed is less of a problem.

The RSPB produced a good paper on the subject some years ago but I haven't
looked at it for some years. I believe they looked at 4 methods of
eradication. I remember that the viability of winching depended a lot on
soil type. Also soil disturbed by winching can cause regeneration of other
invasive species (eg bracken).

We have attempted to control an area of rhododendron with a Glyphosate
based product.
Is this an effective method of control?
I would appreciate any useful information on alternative methods of control.
