As a rough guide I would say that in my firm Amberley Tree Services, a team,
comprising Transit lorry and chipper, processes in a predominantly urban
area about 2 tons of material per day over a 250 working day year, ie 500
tons of which I would estimate 150 tons is firewood. As sadly nobody seems
to be able to use my very varied woodchip as a fuel yet this is gratefully
recieved a cattle tracking by local farmers and stables. Please will you
remember that our product is not a waste but a bio degradable resource, that
with thought can have an end use. Councils can make good money out of
composts and mulches so Dont charge the private firms for green waste.
I hope that this is of some help.
Andrew

Subject: Re: planning for a tree station
I recently attended a meeting with a number of local agencies and Bio
regional who are funded to carry out feasibility studies for timber
recycling
projects
The question being asked is....how many tones of timber does the private
trade collect for recycling/disposal every year. Seems a very vague
question
but the researchers do not know if a Treecare firm will produce 100, 1000
or
10,000 tons of timber and brash.
Could any private operators ghive me feed back suggesting the tonnage they
draw in per year and the number of tree operatives they employ.
eg We have 250 tons in with 5 guys doing the work
Out of the return figures we may get an accurate average.
Ken
