I do hope a devon hedge is just because of were it is planted, and not some
obscure planting method that i am not aware of.

O ownership is a hard one on hedges. I spent a long long time dealing with a
case at southend envolving a hedge which the householder claimed was the LA
but the best advice we got said that in that area the LA (HA) would not have
planted of maintained a hedge in that poisition (back of the footpath,
apparently on a boundary line) and further that the housholder had exserted
so many ownership rights over the hedge that he had displayed a desire to
own it. We had survayouse etal envolved, and the battle still waged when i
left.. to this day i do not think that it has been resolved.

All i can say is deeds, land registary, a good survayour, local history,
grit your teeth and prepare for the ride.

Does anyone know of any commonly accepted principle or legal precedent
for ascertaining who owns a Devon hedge if no indication is given on the
deeds?
