We have a new "theme pub" in Hereford, opened last year and called the
"Litten Tree" - I've had a few queries as to what a Litten tree might be
and, apart from some vague similarities to the word Linden, I've got no
idea.. Needless to say, no-one in the pub has a clue either - It was
probably dreamed up as sounding appropriately quaint and rural by some
Corporate Identity Consultant in the shallowest London, but maybe it's a
real name of a real tree local to somewhere. Anyone got any ideas?

No, but you are not alone. There are dozens of such pubs:

It seems it's a brand name. From

| Business Description
| SFI describe themselves in their accounts as the fastest growing
| mainstream UK pub retailer. They are expanding though the development
| of branded pubs and clubs. They have two very successful brands, the
| "Litten Tree" pubs and the "Bar Med" cafe bars. In addition they have
| a "lap dancing" club called "For Your Eyes Only." The business is
| structured into three parts: the branded outlets (Litten Tree and Bar
| Med), the huge pub complex at Portsmouth, and the traditional pub
| estate.

Sounds horrible. I'd stick to the Barrels I think (if it's still there).
