David is quite rightly indignant in his criticism of a notorious individual. Only, far from being 'hoist by his own petard', his powers are growing daily - having joined forces in a recent battle with a band of structural X-men, able to discern subsidence in the blink of an eye and underpin faster than a speeding bullet!

It would all be highly amusing, if the outcome didn't threaten to separate an elderly spinster from her life savings (though fortunately, I can't see them winning). As professionals, it's all too easy to overlook the human dimension in any given dilemma.

Qualified opinions are of course, as Scott points out, an accepted part of expert evidence, as provided for in the standard declarations (e.g. Academy of Experts' Declaration / Rule 35.10) appended to current legal reports.

Evidence of opinion is covered succinctly in 'The Expert Witness in Court' published by Shaw & Sons - available, I believe, from the Treesource bookshop (www.treesource.co.uk) and all other quality suppliers!

Regards

Adam
