damage.
The condition of a number of young (and not
so young) Carpinus in Belfast City centre seems to
contradict this statement. Thoughts please?

Paul,
I thought you'd been around this old chestnut (no pun
intended) with me before.
Here's a little Irishism for you:
Never believe everything you read in books and
sometimes reading research can inform.

Speight 1991 Impact of leaf feeding by nymphs of the
Horse Chestnut Scale Pulvinaria regalis Canard (Hom,
Coccidae) Journal of Applied Entomology, 1991.

Also I would ask everyone out there to start believing
the evidence that their own eyes provide: in addition
to other adverse environmental factors, Scale insect
infestations can seriously damage a tree's health.

and you're right you two, Breakfast was good!
