Eucalyptus??? I found that if you can split this wood, it sits on top of the
fire and burns like a brick!
I always recall the time that I graciously dropped off a load of Eucalyptus
rings to a lovely old boy who lived nearby, thinking that I had done my good
deed for the year. Two years latter this wood was still stacked up, unsplit!

Dear all
A seasonal but reasonably serious enquiry.
What, in everyone's opinion, are the top 5 or 10 seasoned wood species for
burning on an open fire?
Criteria would be: Ease of ignition, calorific value, and slowness of burn.
There seems to be a lot of disagreement.
I'm no expert but here's a tentative starting list:
1 Ash
2 Oak
3 Birch
4 Crab Apple
5 Eucalyptus (!)
6 Beech
7 Hawthorn
8 Tulip tree (according to Bill)
9 Wild Cherry
10 Hornbeam
