<< What about best use of your resources?>>

Richard,

If your system works for you then great, but what I find is that contractors/consultants/and members of the public want their updates on progress of an application from the horses mouth!

<<It also allows us to stand back from the ‘planning melee’ (i.e. “Sorry sir you’ll have to take that up with the Planning department we only advise”)>>

Hardly a customer focused response!

Best use of resources ??? So the planners send you a memo to look at a tree - so you do - then you send a memo to the planners saying you have and XYZ applies- and then a planner who may never have visited the site will try to write up your comments into a report.. when you get objections to the application on grounds a, b and c will the planner be able to put them into touch without visiting the site.. Or with the best use of resources do two officers have to visit the same site to deal with each application?

<< Finally it enables a holistic approach to tree management throughout the Borough, it’s one Sections remit and not spread throughout the Authority>>

Agree with you on that one - The same principles of risk management and tree care should be practiced across an authority - that's why we're are trying to move to a 'one stop shop' for all tree issues. Hopefully this will also prove to provide a consistent approach over time and officers can cover each others job if necessary - what happens if your on hols when the planners need you, or if the planners on hols when you need them?
