Rupert here we go............
FASTCO is dead.................. but most of their certs are of attendance
or basic training, thus they have a shelf life, there are some exceptions to
this such as the LOLER cource, but look at each individually.
NPTC a practical level qualification used to assess the candidates practical
ability to meet a given level of competance, eg, dont hold the sharp end of
the saw, and cut the branch here............. not nessessarily any real
degree of understanding why.
NC National certificate, a starter or entry level type exam can be used to
access the ND.
ND full time, the problem with this is that candidates have certain
compulsary eliments, and otheres are desided upon by the individual college,
so a student from say merrist wood may be able to operate a MEWP, one from
CApel Manor able to drive a tractor etc etc..................
RFS Climber with brains type exam, forman etc, there is a huge sprall of
technical knowledge they need and then a wide range of practical tests
(NPTC) only when a candidate has both may thay use the p.noms cert. arb, in
my experiance most students do not follow this through to cover both parts
wich is a shame.
Next up for my mony is the AA tec. cert, parden the gennerlisation, a
watered down version of the prof dip. still if you get through you have done
well.
prof dip. it is a tough one........... if you get it you deserve
it...........
ICF......... well hard to get your foot in the door, time limit on passing
1st 6 papers and then the 3 parts of the part 2..................to be
charted does show a high degree of knowledge in a wide range of disaplines,
and there is a no if's or buts CPD requirment......... still a bit 'foretry
for me' but getting there,
Degree........depends what one............... but out of all the above the
most recognised one.............
with all the above said and done, it all really depends on the persone,
there aptitude and commitment, you must look at qualifications and say they
have shown they can do it, but look to the person to see if they can apply
it........

Subject: relative levels of qualifications
I'm trying to sort out in my own mind the relative levels of the different
Arb. qualifications; ie
NPTC/FASTCO proficiency certificates
NC (arb)
BTEC ND Arb
AA Technicians
RFS Tech Cert
old OND Arb
HND Arb
RFS ND arb/Professional Diploma
ICF
Degree?
Because of the different awarding bodies, and the different syllabi, some
of
these may be moreor less equivalent; what is the opinion of the correct
ranking for the above?
Rupert
