I also understand that this is the case; but the Highway authority have
complete control over what goes on on that land; and I do not think that the
owners have many rights (other than mineral rights below their surface
presumeably)as a result of such ownership.

If my memory serves me correctly then Humberside's Solicitors argued that
in the Patterson case. I believe it to be true but have never had any
problem that hinged on the fact.
