Dear All,
I have to be honest and say that I have not really been following the PICUS
thread until it was so kindly pointed out to me they maybe I should! The
PICUS system was first demonstrated at the ISA 10th Anniversary Conference
in April 2002 - for those of you who attended, you may have been present at
the dissection of a mature Sycamore Tree. An educational session before the
tree dissection was lead by Dr David Lonsdale and Mr Mike Ellison looking at
decay detection and patterns following this session the tree was kindly
dismantled and cross sectioned whilst still standing. (And if I am not
mistaken it is still there within Myerscougfh College grounds) Before the
tree was dismantled the PICUS system was used with the nails and all, the
image that was produced and interpretated by our demonstrator was almost
perfectly identical to the decay shown when the tree was cross sectioned.
