We took down 3 wires once, I mean dropped a wacking great Pine limb on them

and an argument as normally they were used to the tree people pretending
they didnt do it. We admitted it from outset and they appreciated it. Got an
?85 bill. No problem.

You need to acquire a box of "connector dropwire No.2a" aka "jellies".
I have some 15 year old ones. Whilst the wire to the consumer's
linebox belongs to BT I suppose it would be a case of criminal damage
but has there been a prosecution? The engineers were a bit busy whilst
I was moving trees off their lines and decided to compromise when I
dropped a branch on the line to the then peer who was spokesman for
defence. It's all quite simple really, undo the spiral line splice
thingy, cut off the connector, remove wire from harm's way. Fell tree
apply "jelly" (preferably maintaining the same polarity as before)
re-tension and fix the spiral line wrap.

My recent experience has been that they will drop the wire to the
ground for free, as long as the work can be completed without
disconnecting the customer (assuming the customer is a third party).
The modern bundled wires with an steel wire support all in a figure of
eight plastic cover is amazingly strong stuff. Again it is a simple
procedure to remove this wire from about 4 poles so it can lie out of
harm's way, and then fell across it. Mind it takes 2 bt crews and half
a day of time for each operation, or ten minutes with a pair of spikes
;-).

Now, lets move onto fencing panels, and drain covers.... hmmm..... maybe
another time.

Never can find a broken drain cover when I want to, need one to make a
replacement baffle for the Jotul!
