A tree in decline provides good growing conditions to stimulate Ivy and its
advancement into the canopy.
For instance:-
a) More light to Ivy leaves through a dying crown,
b) Fungal activity and decay providing a nutritional source for Ivy roots,
c) Ideal bark pH for Ivy rootlet adherence.
People have assumed that Ivy kills trees, but should we see its prolific
growth as an indicator (if not already apparent) of a tree's future poor
health.

Please respond to uktc
Morning all,
Can anyone point me in the right direction for current information on Ivy
in
trees and its affect (or not) on the tree? All I have is an AAIS note from
1990 by Derek Patch. Many thanks,
B
P.S. Thanks for all the info on red wine and corks. Looks like I will have
to change where I shop in future.
