Glad you said that - makes me feel a bit better. in practical terms you
want to know the size of the cavity in relation to sound wood. And as you
say - what's the point of testing sound wood?

across.>>
Sorry Dom, I don't quite understand the point you're raising here?>
Sorry bit clumsy - if you drill a tree it will react to the hole depending
on its own set of variables - so your experiment showed Trichoderma and on
Rayners theory another tree/species/location may show something else
depending on the fungal/tree interaction of that specific case. What we
Arbs look for is generalisations and Rayner basically says that there aren't
any it depends on the specifics of the tree (location/species/climate etc)
as each specimen reacts to its own set of variables in a unique way. And
that's what I both love and hate about Rayner - it's pretty obvious but
doesn't help fit things into neat boxes. I hope this is clearer.
<PS As I haven't had the opportunity yet, congratulations on fatherhood. I
look forward to seeing how much more responsible and grown up you are when
we meet up again ;-)>
As a few people have asked me know - the girls are fine, the parents have to
keep reminding themselves they're in charge, responsible and grown up - it's
like a constant double take. Surprisingly I feel so much better and more
focused on less sleep - I did not expect that to happen. Maybe I'll crash
soo..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
