semi evergreen "Describes a plant that retains most or
some of its foliage throughout the year" (Royal
Horticultural Encyclopaedia of Garden Plants).
eg/Privet

This came from Hansard so it must be right?!

is that the only
semi-evergreens that you will come across are
Quercus x hispanica
'Lucombeana', and one or 2 shrubs, evergreen in
their native habitat, which
are semi-evergreen here - eg. Eleagnus umbellatus
'parvifolia'

Thanks for that Chris

I find myself returning to the definitions
particularly the one about the
line
(3) In this section "evergreen" means an evergreen
tree or shrub or a
semi-evergreen tree or shrub.<<

If an evergreen is by description "ever green" is a
semi evergreen only
green part of the time? Would another word for this
be deciduous?

If that were the case the following would condemn
any two trees standing
close together
a) is formed wholly or predominantly by a line of
two or more
evergreens;<<

Please tell me that it isn't so.

If I don't write much else, this might just go
through :) It's a zipped
up pdf, complete with bookmarks, of Chapter 8 of
the ASB. Some may find
it useful.
