PS on the subject of ICF jamborees, you mentioned the growing doubts
over pruning deadwood and whether it was worth it in terms of risk.
Earlier though, the Bath TO's stated that last year they'd had 75
claims of damage / incidents from dead elm and no doubt many other
unreported failures. No doubt, this is a lot less than 1/10,000 of the
population, but do you or Mike perhaps, have any comments on that?
Given the sheer numbers of dead elm along roads, would stating the risk
at less than 1 in 10,000 be an adequate defence?

I have been working on the issue of potential impact from falling branches
(dead or alive) and the probability of branch and whole tree failure. I
would like to respond to the above but I am unclear as to what you mean by
"No doubt, this is a lot less than 1/10,000 of the
population". Could you clarify.
Regards
Mike
