Yes, after all, to quote the Gardeners Chronicle for 1870- odd .........
'However small your garden, be sure to set aside at least an acre for trees'
Ah those were the days- 'when the Lowells spoke to the Cabots, and the
Cabots spoke only to God',
And : 'The rich arrived in pairs,
and also in Rolls Royces,
The talked of their affirs,
In loud and strident voices'

Subject: Re: Woodland Order boundary
One thing that springs to mind from reading all the replies is the notion of
" woodland orders are unlikely to be appropriate for gardens". The main
word being "appropriate".
I recently placed a Woodland Order on a site before visiting it as the
aerial photography showed a large expanse of trees extending beyond the
property curtilage that was quite clearly, a woodland (and the fact they
were felling at the time). Of course it will be different throughout the
country but down here in Surrey with its abundance of trees and large
properties, it is quite feasible for a woodland to be within a garden (what
what!). I see no problem with desiganting a woodland TPO in someones
garden, especially as the local forestry officer said he considers a
woodland as "something that one would normally consider a woodland". Why
should it be any different for TPO purposes?
